US Navy SEAL Store carries the coveted and highly sought after Challenge coins. Navy SEALs coins, or Navy SEAL challenge coins as they are called are given to members upon joining, as an award to improve morale and as a way to commemorate special achievement within the ranks of the military. The history of the use of challenge coins began in the U.S. Army Air Force. During WWI, the flying squadrons were manned by volunteer pilots from all walks of life. One rather wealthy volunteer pilot ordered small medallion coins struck. He used these coins to give to the other pilots in his squadron as tokens of appreciation for their service and dedication to the country. During the Vietnam War soldiers carried metals coins emblazoned with a crest for luck. If you were in a bar and did not have your coin with you, you were made to buy drinks for all who had their coins. So the next time you are in a military bar, lay your challenge coin on the bar and those who don't produce one will have to buy drinks! On a more serious note, challenge coins are given out routinely by commanders for jobs well done or for special occasions. President Clinton had several racks of challenge coins he was given by U.S. military members and they are now on display at the Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our Navy SEAL challenge coins are the 'real deal' and are cast in heavy bronze.
